The March of the Orange Shirts"None of the big public organizations - from the Bar Association and the Chambers of Commerce to the Journalists' Association and the academic bodies - found it necessary to raise their voice in defense of democracy, while the orange militants were flooding all the TV channels, which made no attempt to present other views. The Silence of the Sheep. The silence of Weimar." |

US and the South Asian Nuclear Question"Pakistan finds itself in a particularly challenging spot in the international scene. Clearly at this juncture there are multiple pressure points posing a cumulative challenge for Pakistan. And new elements of US South Asian and the broader Asian policy also pose new challenges for Pakistan. Islamabad needs to undertake a serious strategic re-think." |

Anger in Egypt as Condoleezza Rice lectures on democracy but backs Mubarak"...the Bush administration knows that Mubarak (who is standing for a fifth term) will win, as the election will be neither free nor fair, and the largest and most popular opposition group is not allowed to field a candidate. As a result of its backing for Israel, its war on Islam and its invasion of Iraq (these three things in particular), the US is detested, and it is not surprising that its belated and false call for "democratisation" is not taken seriously by the people of the Middle East." |

The Importance of Salat (Prayer) in The Life of A Muslim"Throughout history the prophets have communicated the salat made compulsory by Allah to their respective peoples, and have been role models for all believers by abiding by this observance in the best and most correct manner." |

Operation Wake Up"There is hope in the growing demand for immediate withdrawal from Iraq, as well as in calls for impeachment. But we will not end terror or stop the empire simply by impeaching Bush, since his loyal opposition is almost as bad. And even those two desires will need to be joined with a further, most important demand: that policy towards Israel change radically, to not only observe the rights of the Palestinians, but to confront and end the power of the Israeli lobby over the U.S. government. To some, that may seem a tall order, but to those who truly want peace and social justice, it is an absolute necessity." |

George Bush, our "Liar-in-Chief," is Ignorant of History!"Baltimore’s patriots defeated the invading British forces in the War of 1812-1814, at Fort McHenry. Yesterday, President Bush, ranted at the Dundalk Marine Terminal, across the harbor from the fort, urging the renewal of the draconian Patriot Act. Bush is our “Liar-in-Chief” and he’s ignorant of history. What’s next? A surveillance device implanted in everyone’s head?" |

Separating Press and State"It is journalists who create the unsubstantiated allegations that becomes secret evidence in articles, op-eds, editorials, and even in academic journals about Palestinian or other Muslim political activists, leading to detainment without charges that have lasted for years. It is journalists, who use rumor and innuendo to suggest that such activists, and their political positions, present a national security threat, when the threat they pose is actually to undemocratic Muslim governments and Israel. Ironically such journalists can not be held legally accountable for falsifying evidence, or for violating or depriving US citizens of rights in such cases, since as members of the press, their First Amendment rights are more sacrosanct than the Constitutional rights of US citizens, and our Bill of Rights." |

One Thousand and One Nights: A tale from Canada's Security Certificates"As of September 6th 2005, Sophie will have spent one thousand and one nights living under the shadow of destruction that began when her husband Mohamed was arrested via the auspices of the CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) Certificate, accused of having ties to terrorists. Within moments, anyone associated with a man detained behind the secret evidence of the Security Certificate has a new descriptive. In the case of Sophie, she has gone from being the wife of Mohamed or “Moe” as she calls him, to being the wife of a “terrorist” as he is being called." |
