Social or Anti-Social Media?

"...the talk of war must be stopped before it leads to actual war, and the power of minority money over the global system must be countered by the power of majority people. That will not happen as the result of a November election and certainly not by allowing social media to be used for anti-social purposes, but it needs to happen soon."

Palestine's Economy is in Trouble, But Why?

"What Israel failed to note is its determination to keep the Palestinians in its economic grips and the multitude of ways it has achieved this. Whether we are talking about the restrictions on the import and export of goods, the number of workers Israel employs in its own factories and businesses or the withholding of tax revenues owed to the PA, Israel has always ensured a way of keeping Palestinian economic independence at bay....In the end however, it is not a case of economics. This is only a major byproduct of the fundamental ill, which is Israel’s occupation of Palestine and its control over just about every facet of Palestinian life. We can all understand why Israel’s foreign ministry drafted the report; it is not out of concern for the Palestinians. It is part of Israel’s plan to convince the world that a Palestinian state is not a good idea. What it has not said is that Israel planned this all along, that it has not adhered even to the agreements it signed itself, including the Paris Protocol and that it was never interested in an independent Palestinian economy. It has never been interested in Palestinian independence at all."

Police State Blues: "Our rights do not end where the caprice of authoritarian bullies begins."

"To express indifference or to be an apologist for the quotidian evils of our time is reprehensible. Like the "good Germans" of the 1930's, you might believe your codified hatreds and commodified longings, manifested by the industrial and military power of the state, will deliver and preserve freedom…but these beliefs, maintained by systems of mechanized force, will, in time, come to debase everything you hold dear."

Celebrating International Women's Day

"The Quran terms both the male and the female on the same level equal in the spiritual field and it never considers the female as inferior to the male. She can surpass the male in earning the virtues and the beneficence through her spiritual struggle and ‘taqwa.’ The western view about the female is quite different rather conflicting to that of Islam. These two views are to be studied in light of the mindset of the West and the teaching of Islam respectively....Islam recognizes all the human beings equal, on the basis of birth since all human race is the progeny of the same parents i.e. Adam and the Eve. Perfect equality has been guaranteed as there is no superiority for anybody on the basis of sex, race, creed or color and ethnicity. We therefore, claim that Islam gives universal recognition to the equality of human beings on the social level."

Small Business Owners and Labor: The Backbone of the Nation

"Small business owners and workers share the anxiety of economic uncertainty, including the difficulty or impossibility of obtaining health insurance, saving for retirement and providing education, food and shelter for their families....Small business employers and their employees travel to work over the same unrepaired roads, and they send their children to the same rundown schools that suffer from a lack of teachers, funding and direction. Their homes have negative value, they live in the same environment, drink the same polluted water and breath the same poisonous air. Their food supply is dangerous, and they all pay more than $4 a gallon for gasoline."

NYPD: Shredding the Constitution

"It is worrisome that in the post-9/11 era the challenge to constitutional rights has all too often been met with silence—because it was Arabs and Muslims who were the targets. What we have failed to recognize is that if the rights to assemble, to speak freely, to be secure from unwarranted search, to due process, and more are put at risk by the NYPD and CIA in New York, then these rights may ultimately be threatened for all Americans."
